Work Location: Primarily based in Winnipeg and surrounding areas; occasional out-of-town work may be required.
Summary
The Grader Operator is responsible to grade rough or fine finishing; precisely spreading and mixing materials in order to dry and prep roads; constructing road surface to precise grade specifications, laying cold mix, and/or shaving and ripping out old road surfaces.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Operate Grader to fine grade tolerances, spread & push piles of sand, soil, and aggregate materials to the specified grade
- Safely Operate Grader on public roadways, maintaining awareness of surroundings and utilities
- Drive Grader in successive passes over working area; observing reference stakes or hand signals of other workers
- Demonstrate an understanding of grades and interpret roadway plans and drawings
- Move construction materials, earth, and other heavy materials at construction sites.
- Ensure a sound understanding of the issues involving ground disturbance
- Coordinate machine actions with crew members in response to hand or audio signals
- Ensure that safety standards are met
- Check to make sure that equipment functions properly
- Clean and perform basic maintenance to equipment
- Report malfunctioning equipment to supervisors
- Operate other heavy equipment and other construction-related duties as assigned, including physical labour.
Job Requirements
- A minimum of 3 years Grader operator experience
- Possess a valid class 5 driver’s license
- Knowledge of grade control systems
- Ability to multi-task effectively and efficiently in a dynamic fast pace environment
- Physically able to repetitively lift 50 lbs on a regular basis
- Problem Solving Skills, Timeliness, and Pride in your work product are essential for success in this position
- Excellent hand, eye, and foot coordination
- Working in inclement weather, heat and humidity, and exposure to dust and asphalt
- Ability to use power tools and equipment required to perform the work
- Required to work out of town and at times in a camp environment in remote locations
- Punctual and able to work full time, overtime, and occasional weekends.
