Location: Rural Locations around Manitoba
Summary
Responsible for cleaning and preparing construction sites. Unloads and loads materials, reads plans and specifications, tends machines, evenly distributes asphalt, concrete, or other materials, and assists workers, operators, engineers, and other construction site personnel in various labour type tasks.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Follow construction plans and instructions from supervisors or more experienced workers
- Help fellow workers with their duties
- Preparing and cleaning up construction sites
- Set up barricades, cones, and markers to control traffic patterns
- Operate small equipment and tools. (Training will be provided as necessary)
- Load, unload, and move construction materials around the worksite
- Using a rake or shovel, spread gravel and other construction materials over road surfaces, building or decreasing slopes or leveling asphalt to fine grade specifications
- Ensure work site is organized and free of clutter, rubble, and garbage
- Shovel asphalt mix into areas inaccessible to paving machines, and compact mix using rakes and hand tampers
- Perform miscellaneous activities throughout the day, as directed
- Have strong logical/critical thinking, decision making, and problem-solving skills
Job Requirements
- Class 5 drivers license and reliable vehicle
- Must be willing to work out of town and in remote locations
- Physically able to repetitively lift 50 lbs on a regular basis
- 1 year work experience within the construction industry, preferrable
- Must be a team player, reliable and organized
- Must be able to perform physical labor on construction sites
- Punctual and able to work full time, overtime, and occasional weekends
- Experience operating equipment would be an asset
- Familiar with construction methods, tools, and materials
- Timeliness is essential for success in this position
Successful candidates must be willing to work out of town and in remote locations in a camp environment. Accommodations may vary between hotels and camp depending on location of job and candidates home location. Candidates must be willing to stay in either accommodation. Preference will go to candidates local to the area in which the project is located.
