Summary
The Pipelayer is responsible for laying pipe and manholes for storm or sanitary sewers and water mains. All pipes must meet grade elevations by use of levels or lasers.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Execute the daily plan and work sequence under the direction of the Foreman, completing daily tasks in an effective and safety-conscious manner.
- Participate in safety meetings and toolbox talks.
- Provide pipe installation to meet set specifications.
- Assist and work with operators in trenching to required depths.
- Load, unload and move construction materials around the worksite.
- Ensure work site is organized and free of clutter, rubble and garbage.
- The ability to follow directions; hard work and dependability are extremely important
- Have a strong logical/critical thinking, decision making and problem-solving skills
Job Requirements
- Valid Class 5 Driver's License
- A minimum of 3 years pipelaying experience
- Must be physically able to repetitively lift and carry at least 50 lbs. on a regular basis
- Must be able to work with little supervision; be self-directed
- Punctual and available to work full time, overtime and weekends as needed
- Able to read and understand drawings
- Able to operate equipment considered an asset
- Familiar with construction methods for all types of sewer pipe material
- Training and certification in confined space, fall protection, H2S, and first aid is an asset
- Must be willing to work out of town and at times in a camp environment
